Kashmir in Every Season: When Should You Actually Go?
By Colors Vacations Team · September 15, 2026
Kashmir doesn't really have a single 'best' season — it has four very different trips depending on when you go, and the right one depends on what you're actually after.
Spring (March to May) is when the almond blossoms and tulip gardens are out, particularly the Tulip Garden in Srinagar, usually in full bloom through April. Temperatures are mild, the Mughal gardens are green and fresh, and crowds are thinner than summer. If photography and gardens are your priority, this is a strong window.
Summer (June to August) is peak season for a reason — comfortable daytime temperatures, all the roads and passes open (including Sonamarg and higher-altitude spots that can be snowed in other months), and long daylight hours. This is also when it's busiest and priciest, and Gulmarg's meadows are green rather than snow-covered, which surprises people expecting snow year-round.
Autumn (September to November) is, for a lot of repeat visitors, the quiet favourite — the chinar trees turn a deep gold and red, especially through October, the light is soft, and it's noticeably less crowded than summer while the weather is still comfortable during the day (cool mornings and evenings). This is also apple harvest season in the orchards around Srinagar and Sopore, if that's part of what draws you.
Winter (December to February) is Kashmir's snow season — Gulmarg becomes a genuine skiing and snowboarding destination with its gondola running through snowfields, and Srinagar itself gets a quieter, atmospheric dusting of snow. It's cold, some higher routes close, but it's also when hotel rates drop and the classic 'snow-covered Kashmir' postcard image is real rather than aspirational.
We run two different Kashmir routes depending on the season and pace you want — a classic Srinagar–Gulmarg–Pahalgam circuit, and a slower orchard-season itinerary built around Kashmir's apple harvest. Tell us roughly when you're thinking of travelling and we'll tell you honestly which one fits.
